Kate Middleton has been voted the top beauty icon of 2011 - beating sister Pippa into second place.Kate, who became the Duchess of Cambridge when she married Prince William in April, came out top in a poll of 3,000 women.

The 29-year-old Duchess has become recognised as increasingly style savvy throughout the year, appearing impeccably turned-out at various public occasions over the year.Her glossy brunette locks - tended to until recently by stylists from the Richard Ward salon in London - tumble about her shoulders with a subtle curl to the ends, and her dark eyeliner, which the Duchess famously applies with her own confident hand, completes her trademark look.

Mr Wouter Van Buuren, a Dutch photographer

Mr Wouter Van Buuren, a Dutch photographer, has spent seven years creating his stunning collection of images - with each individual portrait taking between two months and two years to complete.He scales 70m-high electricity pylons, cranes, bridges and even skyscrapers in a bid to take the vertigo-inducing snaps.He then spends months arranging the photographs to make up one huge landscape - giving the effect of looking down on the whole world.

Mr Van Buuren said: 'I started to make the "total landscapes" in the Netherlands when I was climbing in electricity pylons. I was stunned by the beauty of the landscape I thought I knew so well.When I looked at the landscape from above, the mundane seemed more divine, so I decided to look around for what else I could take images from - and started climbing cranes, bridges and buildings and other countries all over the world'.

ndrey Pavlov, a Russian photographer

He devotedly studied the lives of ants, and planted histrionic props on their trails. There he photographed them live as if in a drama or movie. Except for the planned stage settings, all the rest is natural; no photo editing gimmicks involved, vouches the photographer. It all started with a spinal injury which left him bedridden for a bout during which he happened to read a lot on ants, and observed them. Known for their hardworking nature, the ants stunned Pavlov with the way they care for the weaker members of their community. '..I chose ants because I respect them and their way of life. They care about their children and look after the elderly'.

Photographer and art director Eric Maloberti

Photographer and art director Eric Maloberti also known as Malo, 39, imagines what the future may hold for his three-month-old daughter June when she grows up. In his project Un Jour, Mon Enfant Tu Seras (One Day, My Child, You Will Be...) he dresses June up as a boxer, a priest and a butcher, plus many other professions.

"The idea behind the project is that we do not know what our children will become," said Malo. "One day my oldest son came up to me and said that he wants to be an explorer. My eldest daughter then told me she was going to become an artist. This made me think about what the future really did hold for them."

Eric, makes intricate costumes for June with the help of his wife, and photographs June against a plain mattress. "We did the pictures very quickly so she would not get tired," said Malo.
